DESCRIPTION:Child & Adult Advocacy Studies\nFree K-12 Educators Training\nWednesday, July 12 from 9am to 4pm CDT\nUSD Sioux Falls – Avera Hall (4801 N Career Ave, Sioux Falls)\nThrough support from the Department of Education, the University of South Dakota CAASt Program and the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment are pleased to host this FREE training! Attendees will participate in six 1-hour sessions, which will cover trauma-informed interventions, multidisciplinary team approaches, youth suicide awareness and prevention, and mandatory reporting. This training fulfills the youth suicide awareness and prevention requirement for educators, as well as five contact hours for continuing education.\nTraining Agenda:\n\n9:00-9:45am: Child Well-Being in South Dakota\n\nKnow the risk and protective factors for child maltreatment and identify high-risk populations.\nUnderstand the barriers to help-seeking for victimized children.\nUnderstand characteristics that increase risk of and protection against suicide.\n\n\n9:45-10:45am: Child Development & Stress\n\nLearn stress effects brain development.\nUnderstand physical and mental health effects of violence, neglect, and abuse.\nUnderstand the impact of child maltreatment on suicide ideation, attempt, and completion.\n\n\n10:45-11am: Break\n11:00-11:45am: Brain Architecture Game\n\nBuilds understanding of the powerful role of experiences on early brain development.\n\n\n11:45-12:45pm: Lunch Break\n\nLunch on your own. Bring sack lunch, Tacos de Gringo food truck on-site, or lunch offsite.\n\n\n12:45-1:45pm: A Framework for a Safe & Successful School\n\nIdentify and propose programs that can promote children’s mental health.\nEngage diverse school professionals to develop strategies for student needs.\nIntegrate suicide prevention and wellness programs to reduce risk of suicide, violence, and bullying.\n\n\n1:45-2:45pm: Trauma-Informed Classrooms\n\nEnhance understanding of trauma for interpreting behavior of students and responding appropriately.\nCreate a framework for intervention and application.\nRecognize signs for suicide prevention.\n\n\n2:45-3:00pm: Break\n3:00-4:00pm: School Leaders’ Response to Trauma-Informed Environments\n\nEducate community leaders on providing resiliency for students and school personnel.\nRecognize value of community engagement in responding to maltreatment, and prevention efforts.\nDeveloping a protocol for school suicide prevention and post-vention activities.\n\n\n\n
