SUMMARY:eSANE: Where the Boys Are: Investigating and Prosecuting Cases of CSA When the Victim is Male
DESCRIPTION:Objectives: Understand the unique traumas experienced by boy victims of sexual abuse and how those traumas impact disclosure, learn research supported strategies for addressing the medical, mental health, and spiritual needs of boy victims, through a case study, attendees will learn concrete strategies for conducting forensic interviews, investigations and prosecutions involving boy victims of child sexual abuse\n\nTrainers: Victor Vieth, Chief Program Officer of Education & Research with Zero Abuse Project\nMost sexually abused boys will never make an outcry during childhood and, even if abuse is discovered, investigators and prosecutors will face barriers that impede their ability to protect these children. This workshop explores the research on the sexual abuse of boys and offers concrete suggestions for conducting forensic interviews with these children, investigating crimes against boys, and presenting these cases to a jury.\nThis session is the second in a two-part training on June 18th for the eSANE training series. Registration for this session will also provide access to Normal is Normal: Effective Use of Medical Evidence in the Prosecution of Child Sexual Abuse Cases ( https://sdcpcm.com/events/esane-medical-evidence/ ), which will begin at 9:00am CT/8:00am MT.\nVictor Vieth has trained thousands of child-protection professionals from all 50\nstates, two U.S. Territories, and 17 countries on numerous topics pertaining to child abuse investigations, prosecutions and prevention. Victor gained national recognition for his work in addressing child abuse in small communities as a prosecutor in rural Minnesota, and has been named to the President’s Honor Roll of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Victim Rights Legend Award from the United States Department of Justice, the 2012 Pro Humanitate Award from the North American Resource Center for Child Welfare, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute on Violence & Abuse (IVAT).\nVictor is the Chief Program Officer of Zero Abuse Project, a 501©(3) public charity\nbased in St Paul, MN, committed to education, training, and survivor support in order to eradicate child sex abuse and remedy its resulting harms. Victor has been\ninstrumental in implementing 22 state and international forensic interview training programs and dozens of undergraduate and graduate programs on child\nmaltreatment.\nMr. Vieth graduated magna cum laude from WSU and earned his Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law (HUSL). In 2017, Victor earned an MA in theology from Wartburg Seminary. Mr. Vieth has published countless articles related to the investigation, prosecution and prevention of child abuse and neglect including Unto the Third Generation, a bold initiative that outlines the necessary steps we must all take to eliminate child abuse in America in three generations.\nThis training is hosted by CPCM under Grant No. 2019-MU-GX-K014, awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice.
