DESCRIPTION:Learning Objectives:\n\nParticipants will understand cultural competency and how it can enhance father engagement and support\nParticipants will understand diversity of fatherhood experiences across cultures\nParticipants will learn about cultural barriers to fatherhood engagement and support\nParticipants will understand the importance of fatherhood and its impact on maternal and child health\n\nTrainer: Jillian Baker, The Center for Parent and Teen Communication\nDr. Jillian Lucas Baker, DrPH, EdM is the Executive Director of the Center for Parent and Teen Communication (CPTC) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She will lead CPTC as it continues working to ensure that every caring adult has the knowledge and skills to promote positive youth development and foster the kind of strong family connections that position parents to raise youth with character. Dr. Baker holds her Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) from Drexel University. She is a trained community mental health counselor with a BA degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an EdM from Temple University. She completed postdoctoral training at the National Center on Fathers and Families (NCOFF)/Graduate School of Education and the School of Nursing (both at the University of Pennsylvania). She will complete her Certification in Health and Wellness Coaching at Rowan University in Fall 2024.\nDr. Jill has over 24 years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating community driven, evidence-based prevention programs for vulnerable populations, nationally and internationally. Dr. Jill’s research has examined cultural and social phenomena of vulnerable populations and the ways in which health risks are defined and experienced. More specifically, her scholarship has explored how community spaces are crucial for implementation and sustainability of community health programs. Dr. Baker is also the CEO of a coaching company “A Tribe Called Fertility LLC” for couples of color who need infertility and prenatal support and her podcast “Maternal Health 911”, a support system for BIPOC women and families as they endure fertility and maternal health issues.\n \nContinuing Education\nSD Board of Social Work Examiners\nThis organization (University of South Dakota – Provider #1048) is approved as a provider for continuing education by the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners. Social workers will receive up to 1.0 Continuing Education clock hours for participating in this course.\n
