SUMMARY:Handling the Tough Questions: How to Talk to Children and the Outside World about Difficult Issues
DESCRIPTION:Foster families sometimes struggle with how to talk to children about difficult issues with their biological parent (e.g., substance use or prostitution, no shows for visitations). This presentation will give ideas for how to approach these conversations, as well as how to prepare children to handle questions they might get from other children or adults they encounter.\nPresented by BreAnne Danzi, Ph.D., University of South Dakota\n \n\nBreAnne A. Danzi, Ph.D. is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Dakota. She obtained her graduate degree from the University of Miami, where she specialized in Children and Families. She completed her clinical internship at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she specialized in Childhood Stress Trauma and Resilience. She has extensive clinical experience in the areas of childhood maltreatment and trauma, with a particular emphasis on improving family dynamics. Dr. Danzi’s research focuses on children’s responses to traumatic stress and biopsychosocial factors that influence risk and resilience trajectories in children.\n
