Diversity in Mental Health Summit: Integrating Indigenous Perspectives and Practices into Mental Health and Wellness Services
March 22 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm CDT
On March 22nd, the Department of Counseling and Human Development and the American Indian Student Center will host South Dakota State University’s first ever, Diversity in Mental Health Summit.
The speaker for the event is Dr. Joseph Gone, a Professor of Anthropology and of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard University. In his interdisciplinary scholarship, Dr. Gone examines cultural influences on mental health status, as well as the intersection of evidence-based practice and cultural competence in mental health services. A citizen of the Gros Ventre tribal nation of Montana, he has investigated these issues through collaborative research partnerships in both reservation and urban American Indian communities.
