HON SANDRA HOGLUND HANSON was sworn in as a circuit court judge in November 2018.  Her docket is in the Second Judicial Circuit, which includes Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties.   Judge Hanson grew up on a farm in northeast South Dakota and received her B.A., summa cum laude, in English from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  She then attended law school at the University of South Dakota School of Law.  After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Donald J. Porter, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota.  Following this clerkship, she moved to Sioux Falls to practice with the law firm of Davenport, Evans, Hurwitz & Smith, LLP.  She enjoyed her litigation practice with the Davenport Law Firm for approximately twenty-five years before she entered the judiciary.  She has been fortunate to be a member of and serve in various professional organizations, including the American Board of Trial Advocates.  Judge Hanson currently presides over a docket that generally includes civil cases, but she previously handled the circuit’s abuse and neglect docket for just over two years.
