Foster Care

CPCM is dedicated to strengthening families across South Dakota. In partnership with the SD Department of Social Services, CPCM delivers high-quality training to foster families and kinship providers, assists in recruitment of foster families, and provides evaluation of the South Dakota foster care and kinship program.

Our team delivers 30 hours of pre-service training to prepare prospective foster parents for the important role of caring for children and youth. We also offer ongoing training and professional development opportunities for licensed foster parents and kinship providers, helping caregivers build skills, confidence, and knowledge throughout their journey.

In addition, we conduct evaluation and quality improvement activities for foster care and kinship licensing programs to support effective services and positive outcomes for children and families. Through our partnership with Stronger Families Together, we participate in recruitment and retention efforts aimed at increasing community awareness, supporting current caregivers, and helping more South Dakota families answer the call to provide safe and nurturing homes.

Together, we work to ensure children and families have access to safe, stable, and nurturing caregiving environments across the state. To learn more about how you can become a foster family, visit https://strongerfamiliestogether.sd.gov/.
