eSANE: Why a Victim’s Immigration Status Matters: Getting Onto a Path to a Lawful Work Permit and US Citizenship
In this session:
- Participants will have a basic understanding of family-based immigration law, employment-based immigration law, and humanitarian based immigration law.
- Participants will have a basic understanding of common immigration statuses found in South Dakota.
- Participants will have an advanced beginner understanding of victims of crimes and eligibility for lawful status, work permit, and pathway to US Citizenship.
- Participants will have an advanced beginner understanding of children in immigration court and eligibility for lawful status, work permit, and pathway to US Citizenship.
- Participants will have a basic understanding of organizations in SD who assist with immigration status.
Trainer: Taneeza Islam, CEO, Immigration Lawyer & Co-Founder at SD Voices for Peace and SD Voices for Justice
Taneeza Islam has been practicing immigration law in SD since 2013. She co-founded SD Voices for Peace (SDVFP) in 2017 and launched the state’s only free immigration legal services to victims of crimes and minors in immigration court. SD Voices for Peace has 4 main programming areas: Legal Services, Multilingual Community Outreach and Civic Engagement, Education and Training, and Rapid Response.
