2024 Legislative Session Recap

This session will include a recap of the 2024 legislative session. The discussion will focus on CPCM policy initiatives, the CDC ACEs prevention framework, and 2024 legislative wins related to child welfare including but not limited to the 4% cost of living increase, policing the internet, artificial intelligence, children accessing pornography, as well as big changes in school funding and prioritizing teacher salaries.

Helene Duhamel

State Senator Helene Duhamel is a 35-year television reporter and fifth generation South Dakotan. In the spring of 2017, Helene stepped away from broadcasting and joined the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office as the Public Information Officer. In December 2019, Helene was appointed to the South Dakota Senate in Rapid City, District 32. She was twice re-elected and twice selected by her peers to a position of leadership as a Majority Whip in the South Dakota Senate. She is up for re-election this fall. Helene chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and serves on Senate State Affairs, and Rules and Procedures.

 

 

Young holds an M.S. in human services administration from Bellevue University in Nebraska and is skilled in program, policy and advocacy and relationship management. Most recently, she served as chief operations officer for the Goosmann Law Firm in Sioux City, Iowa, and is vice president and member of the Siouxland Mental Health Center executive board of directors. In addition, she has served as director and manager of the Avalon Capital Group and the in-home family services supervisor and manager for Boys Town in Sioux City.
