Legislative Update

A recap of the 2025 Legislative Session to include insights on the activity and key policies affecting child protection, prevention, and family well-being.

Presenter: Senator Tim Reed

Senator Tim Reed represents District 7 in the South Dakota State Senate and is a lifelong resident of Brookings. He chairs the Senate Local Government Committee and serves on the Health and Human Services Committee, where he is active in shaping legislation that impacts families and communities. Senator Reed has been a leader in advancing child care policy, chairing the statewide Child Care Task Force to improve access, affordability, and workforce sustainability. He also serves as chair of the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment (CPCM) Advisory Board and is a strong advocate for prevention efforts statewide. In 2020, he received the Visionary Award from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center for his work on victim-centered legislation, and in 2024, he was honored with the Law & Order Legislative Leadership Award by the South Dakota State’s Attorneys Association for his commitment to public safety and justice.
