Resilient Community, Brookings hosted a free community event on May 10, 2023. Overcoming Adversity Together featured keynote speaker, Billie Sutton. Sutton is a husband, father, rancher, human resources and investment executive, former Pro-Rodeo Cowboy and State Senate Minority Leader, 2018 candidate for Governor of South Dakota, and founder of the nonprofit Billie Sutton Leadership Institute.

Over 100 community members attended the event to hear Billie’s personal story of overcoming adversity. The event’s theme focused on how to move from individual responsibility to collaborative, community solutions.
