Acute SANE Technical Assistance Phone Line

The South Dakota SANE Learning Collaborative Program will now be providing funds to support 24/7 technical assistance (TA) by phone for all rural medical facilities in the state of South Dakota when caring for patients who present after sexual violence. The phone lines will be covered by experienced medical forensic examiners at Avera McKennan who will answer questions regarding various topics on the care of this patient population. Questions may include steps of the medical forensic exam, acuity determination, injury documentation, evidence collection, and review of CDC recommendations for prophylactic medications to prevent STIs, conception/pregnancy, and HIV. This hotline will offer telephone support and guidance to medical personnel but is not necessarily intended for the TA provider to remain on the line for the duration of the exam.
