CPCM Strategic Plan
The Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment (CPCM) at the University of South Dakota is committed to ending child abuse and neglect in our state. Child maltreatment is a pressing public health issue that significantly impacts individual and community well-being. By recognizing and addressing it as a public health priority, we can develop comprehensive strategies that promote prevention, early intervention, and support for affected families. Our mission is to empower professionals, communities, and the public to know about, respond to, and ultimately prevent child maltreatment in South Dakota.
2024-2027 Key Goals
Training & Professional Development: We will enhance the skills and knowledge of those working to prevent and respond to child abuse through new training programs, curricula, and education opportunities developed with state, community, and academic partners.
Interdisciplinary Prevention & Response: We will improve how teams of professionals from different fields (healthcare, law, education, etc.) work together to address child maltreatment issues across South Dakota. Our role is facilitating better practices, policies, and data-driven solutions.
Public Awareness: We will implement public awareness campaigns to shift attitudes and promote a statewide commitment to preventing child abuse. This movement will educate the public and bring communities together to create a safer environment for all children and families.
