Wendy Kloeppner

Wendy Kloeppner, J.D., hails from Bemidji, Minnesota. She is a graduate of Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Writing, and a Minor in Business Administration.

After her Bachelor’s Degree, Ms. Kloeppner earned her Juris Doctorate at the University of South Dakota School of Law. Following law school, Ms. Kloeppner served as a law clerk for the Honorable Justice John K. Konenkamp (retired) of the South Dakota Supreme Court.

Ms. Kloeppner began her law enforcement career in 2003 at the Office of the State’s Attorney in Butte County, South Dakota (Belle Fourche), as a Deputy State’s Attorney. Ms. Kloeppner also worked as a Deputy State’s Attorney in Meade County, South Dakota (Sturgis), and in Hughes County, South Dakota (Pierre). In 2013, Ms. Kloeppner was appointed the State’s Attorney for Hughes County. She was subsequently elected to the office in 2014, and again in 2016.

In February 2018, Ms. Kloeppner was appointed as the State’s Attorney for Lake County, South Dakota (Madison). She was subsequently elected to the post, where she currently serves. In addition to her work as a State’s Attorney, Ms. Kloeppner is a member of the board of the South Dakota State’s Attorneys Association, and the Advisory Board of the University of South Dakota’s Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment. Ms. Kloeppner is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.
