Training Series to Focus on Role of Fathers
Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment, through support from SD Department of Health will present a limited training series on fatherhood. Online, one-hour training sessions will begin on June 12 with six sessions provided on a weekly basis through July 17.
“CPCM is honored to highlight the important role of fathers through this training series,” said Chrissie Young, CPCM Director. “This series is designed to cover topics for a wide range of service providers, decision-makers, and community members.”
The series will be held exclusively online, allowing anyone from across the state to access these valuable training sessions. Topics will include impact of involved fathers, co-parenting techniques and strategies, father involvement in maternal and infant health, family resilience, diversity of fatherhood experiences across cultures, and impact of policies on father engagement.
“These sessions will be provided by regional and national experts on fatherhood,” Young stated. “We are thankful to South Dakota Department of Health for their support of this learning opportunity.”
The training series includes:

- June 19: Co-Parenting presented by Dr. Brad Sachs, The Father Center
- June 26: Paternal Inclusion: Benefits to Maternal & Infant Health presented by Joel Austin, Daddy University
- July 3: Fatherhood and Family Resilience presented by D. L. Pos Ryant, Apprentice of Peace Youth Organization
- July 10: Cultural Competency and Diversity in Fatherhood presented by Jillian Baker, The Center for Parent and Teen Communication
- July 17: Policy and Structural Factors for Support Fathers presented by Dan Wuori, Early Childhood Policy Solutions

End Online Child Abuse
CPCM is developing sustainable solutions to reduce all forms of child maltreatment in South Dakota, beginning with child sexual abuse. We’re compiling information and resources at SDCPCM.com to raise awareness of the importance of online child safety.
Enough Abuse is a citizen education and community mobilization initiative working to prevent child sexual abuse in our homes, schools, youth organizations and communities. Enough Abuse is CPCM’s adopted training curriculum on child sexual abuse. Their site includes a variety of information and resources for parents and service providers on online child sexual abuse.

Cultural Competency Series In-Person Sessions Begin June 13
Service providers working with families with young children in the Sioux Falls-area are invited by CPCM and LSS to a free in-person training series. This training series will be held at The Coliseum, 515 N Main Ave in Sioux Falls on Thursdays from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Attendees are invited to bring their own lunch or lunch will be available onsite for purchase.
